Mike Bellotti interviews

Posted by wewantwalker on December 20, 2007

Holy Crap. Man that guy would be a get and a half. Bellotti is LEGIT.

Per Dohn, Bellotti interviews:

LAS VEGAS – UCLA’s coaching search has taken them to the Northtwest, where several UCLA administrators met with Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, sources said.Bellotti is 105-50 since taking over at Oregon in 1995, and is considered one of the top offensive coaches in the West.Bellotti balked earlier in UCLA’s interviewing process when intermediaries juggled. He had the Ducks in position for a shot at the national championship this season until quarterback Dennis Dixon tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. The Ducks, who play South Florida in the Sun Bowl later this month, lost their last three games after Dixon was hurt.

Mike Belotti would be a coach of Howland-esque caliber. At first I thought that Belotti was using UCLA as leverage to get a better deal at Oregon. But I think he is legitimately interested in coaching at UCLA. He’s going to have a crappy team at Oregon next year, will lack a strong quarterback (e.g. the 3 losses after Dixon went down this year)next year, AND its easier to recruit in Los Angeles than it is in Eugene (despite the fact that Oregon has the best training facilities in the country).

I understand if Walker would want to leave if we got a no-name coach… but WHOA.

DW is a solid recruiter NOW. Can you imagine what would happen if he were recruiting next to a head coach of Bellotti’s caliber???

    Mother of heaven…
