We Want Walker

DeWayne Walker for UCLA head coach.

News and tad bit more reflection

Posted by wewantwalker on December 19, 2007

It’s been absolutely nuts in the last 24-48 hours. Who is the front runner? Is it the Mooch? Talk of the Mooch has been gutted, slaughtered, and burnt beyond recognition, only to rise again, as the Phoenix from the flame.

Neuheisel? Seems like the support behind Neuheisel is growing. Should he be forced to keep Walker on staff? Lots of good arguments going back on forth on this. I’ll have a comprehensive post by the end of the night why I don’t think it’s too bad to have Neuheisel keep Walker on staff.

Al Golden? I have a thorough and complete analysis written out on Al Golden below.

 No.

How’s that for analysis? If anyone thinks Golden would be a good get, I’d love to hear the arguments. I’m just not sure a thorough investigation of him would be worth my time at this point.

Mooch. Neuheisel. Chow. Walker. One of your coaches will be gleaned from that list. This is an exciting time for UCLA.  Just talking pure experience, Mooch, Neuhisel, and Chow would instantly become the most qualified head coaches in the history of the UCLA football program.   Why do we want Walker then? Again, we really think he’s special, but we understand the many people that don’t agree with us. We’re telling you though, Walker will be a fantastic coach at the D-I level.  I haven’t heard too much talk about Walker recently. I hope he’s not out of the picture.  We really hope, at least, that the next coach will retain him. Again, we think Walker’s numbers speak for themselves.

In other news, Ben Olson doesn’t look like he’s going to start in the Las Vegas Bowl. I feel bad for Ben.  Dude seriously could have gone anywhere, ANYWHERE, and he took a risk on a fledging UCLA program.  Hopefully a new coach next year will allow him to reach some of his unbelievable potential.

Reflection-wise, we’re really encouraged, humbled, and thankful for all the support we’ve recieved about the positive discourse that this blog, as well as our future blog, will try to encourage.  Again, we think its the most important issue right now wrt to the Bruin Blogosphere and we feel we need to let the rest of the world know that not all UCLA fans are a little cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

Though for the record, I am a big fan of cocoa puffs. mmmmmmm.

Part of a complete breakfast. NOT part of a complete blog.

Lastly, we’re putting together the final details of the new blog. We’ve got a legit title worked out and we’re working on some design stuff as well as figuring out exactly what kind of blog we want to be.  We feel that despite all the terrific websites you see on the blogroll to the right, some of the crazies have created another void that needs to be filled. We wish to fill that void. I know I’ve been saying this a lot, but stay tuned.

How is it that Golden siomply gets a “No” when he has ACTUAL HC experience hand has done a decent job of turning around an absolutely terrible Temple program (#1 rated recruiting class in the conference this year).

I’d love to see an intelligent argument that Walker has a more substantial track record than Golden

look at their respective recruiting connections in california.

That’s your rationale? The potential that Walker can recruit better in CA makes him a valid HC candidate?

Let’s just hire Ed Orgeron then.

Orgeron was a failure as a head coach. And he was a d-line coach. Theres a big difference between a d-line coach and a defensive coordinator no?

But he’s a good recruiter, which is pretty much Walker’s only qualification for the job.
